Animated Thumbnails 🎬

An animated thumbnail is a short video preview that plays when users hover over your game’s static thumbnail. This helps players quickly get a sense of what your game feels like and can significantly boost engagement.

Once your game enters the Soft Release phase, you’ll have the opportunity to add an animated thumbnail to showcase your game.

Video Requirements

To ensure your animated thumbnail works seamlessly across the platform, please follow these specifications:

  • Dimensions: 1080 x 1080 (can be higher, as long as it respects max file size)
  • Aspect Ratio: 1 : 1 (square)
  • Frame rate: 50fps+
  • Duration: 4 to 6 seconds
  • Audio: muted (you can export files with audio, but the website won’t play any sounds)
  • Export format: .mp4 and respect max file sizes!
  • Max file size: 100MB

Content Guidelines

  • Focus on gameplay: Showcase your core mechanics and most exciting moments.
  • Keep text to a minimum: Visuals should do the talking.
  • Highlight 2-3 scenes: Each scene should last around 1-2 seconds, to give variety without overwhelming the viewer.
  • Start with the static artworks: Consider starting with your static thumbnail artwork and animating from there for a cohesive transition.
  • Simplify: Always hide or mask UI elements that aren’t essential, and remember that the square crop can trim out some action, so center your visuals.
  • Remove the cursor: Double-check that your cursor is not visible. We recommend using Cursorcerer to easily hide it during recording.
