Web Fit Test 🌐

During the Web Fit Test, your game is shown to around 10,000 players. Your game will be shown on a small set of category pages, where it will appear like a fully released game for the players on the platform.

Why do we Web Fit Test games?

While the game is not promoted and not shown to Poki’s entire audience, this test provides an unbiased assessment of your game’s potential. The results of the Web Fit Test indicate whether there is a potential fit for your game with the Poki audience and where your game might fit within Poki’s categories.

The Web Fit Test is also another tool to use for iteration. While it takes longer to perform than some of our earlier testing stages, the metrics from the test are from a substantial number of users and can tell you a lot about the fit of your game with the Poki audience. If your game does not pass the test right away, that’s okay! The metrics from the Web Fit Test will help you understand which parts of the game to improve on. If your game is scoring less strongly on some testing metrics, have a look at our best practices to see what could be tweaked or improved about the experience and try again. As long as your game meets our Quality Guidelines, you can request a Web Fit Test more than once, so feel free to try it out once your game is ready!

How does a Web Fit Test work?

To create a balanced test, Poki adds the game to multiple categories that fit your game. You can suggest categories for the game to be tested under Settings -> Suggested Categories on your game entry in Poki for Developers. We take these categories into account but also use our own judgment to help you find the best suited audience for the game. That leads us to sometimes place games in other or additional categories than the ones suggested in order to get the most balanced results.

The Web Fit Test takes about 3-5 days to complete. This is dependent on how fast the needed amount of players can be reached. It’s good to note that when a test has started, it has to run its full course. Stopping a test after it has started is not possible. Found an important change or bug in your game after the test has started? No worries - you can always upload an additional version of your game while the test is running. The new version will automatically be set live.

Special instructions for multiplayer games
Is your game a multiplayer game? Then there are a few extra things to consider before requesting a test. For starters, the traffic to your game during a Web Fit Test is limited, which can make filling up the game with enough players slightly more difficult. To help with this, we recommend the following:
  • If your game already has an existing playerbase, we’d recommend connecting to your existing servers for the test. That way enough players should be available during the test.
  • If the above is not possible, we’d recommend adding bots to the game that can fill up open player spots.

  • The Web Fit Test is still developing and improving to facilitate multiplayer games better. If the above suggestions are not feasible right now for your game, we’d like to ask you to keep an eye on our BLOG for further updates and try the test again once our multiplayer capabilities are further developed.

What do I need to do to unlock Web Fit Tests?

In order to unlock the Web Fit Test for your game, you will first need to watch at least 5 playtest recordings in Level 2 and pass the Player Fit Test in Level 3. You also need to add a thumbnail to start this test.

Is my game making money during a Web Fit Test?

While it’s important to consider how to monetize your game early in the development, the actual implementation of these events is not yet necessary during the Web Fit Test. Adding the commercialBreak() and rewardedBreak() event to your game can be saved for after the testing phases.

Should you still want to add the monetization events to your game during Web Fit Test, then it’s good to know that when an ad is requested, one of our Poki placeholder ads will be displayed instead of a real one. Due to this, no revenue is made or shared during this testing stage.

    What do we test for?

During the Web Fit Test, three metrics are tracked. All three are equally important to your game’s possible success on Poki. For all of these metrics, higher numbers are better.

    • šŸ‘† Click-through Rate (CTR) - During the Web Fit Test, your game is shown on a small subset of category pages on Poki. The CTR measures how many players that visited those category pages clicked on the thumbnail for your game. With this metric, you can get an idea of how attractive your thumbnail is and how popular your game initially is to players.
    • ā±ļø Average Time on Page - This metric measures the average time players who reach your game stay on the page. It gives a good insight into how long players enjoy your game on average.
    • % Conversion to Play - When you start a Web Fit Test, the gameplayStart() event from the Poki SDK should be implemented in your game already. With this metric, we measure how many players passed the first gameplayStart() event in your game. This gives insight into the startup process and onboarding of your game. On Poki, fast loading and quick onboarding are very important to the games overall performance, so it’s an important metric to keep in mind.

How to interpret the test results?

Once the test is finished, you receive a performance review. It shows information about your game, an overview of the categories your game was tested in and the scores for the three testing metrics. Your scores show the performance of your game. Below the scores are benchmarks. These show the average performance of all games in the promoted categories.

    WebFitTestResults

The performance of your game on the three metrics is scored on a scale of 0 to 5. This score is dependent on how well your game performed against the averages in the categories your game was tested in. These averages will be different for different categories. If your game scores a 3 or higher, that means your game scores on the same level or higher than the average game in the categories your game was tested in.

To make this a bit more visual, let’s have a look at an example. Let’s say your game was tested in the Action and Adventure games categories. On average, games in these categories score:

    • 1.5% on CTR
    • 4 minutes Average Time on Page
    • 70% C2P

During the test, if the performance of your game is equal to the numbers mentioned above, your game will score a 3 out of 5.

My game finished the Web Fit Test, what now?

Depending on the result of your test, your game either moves on to the Final Poki Review or enters the next stage of iteration. Once the game enters the final review stages, the game will stay live on Poki until the Final Review is concluded but is not promoted or earning anything from in-game ads. This is so players who liked your game in the testing phases can still enjoy it! Let us know if this is an issue and we can remove the game completely while we discuss further.

If your game did not pass the Web Fit Test this time, that’s not the end of your game’s journey on Poki. Have a look at “What to do if my game does not make it?” to see what can be done to improve your game’s fit for the platform. You are also welcome to try another Web Fit Test with a new version, by requesting one in your Poki for Developers dashboard.

Passing the Web Fit Test means that your game shows a potential fit to be released on Poki - congrats! However, that does not mean that your game will be released on Poki right away. Now that we’ve established the possibility of a fit for your game on Poki, your game will be automatically submitted for the Final Poki Review.
